Spiritual Emphasis Day 2 (2 of 2)

A post shared by ACH Student Life (@lionnationnews) on

Yesterday was our second day of the 2019 Spiritual Emphasis student conference. Our Lions were majorly impacted by guest speaker Deryl Courtney and the message he delivered. He shared parts of his testimony, which many of the students could heavily relate to. It was both a touching and beautiful morning.

LNN staffers interviewed much of the students body to discover their favorite parts of Spiritual Emphasis and also how it personally impacted them.

Cora in seventh grade said that “the praise and worship songs” were her favorite part of the conference. “When everyone was worshiping at the alter,” Iris, an ACH sophomore, shared that “it was very cool.” ACH senior Andrew stated, “When the speaker spoke about the guy from Chicago who had so many opportunities, but didn’t take advantage of them… But God gave him another chance even though he disobeyed. That story really spoke to me.”

“Spiritual emphasis was very meaningful to me, because it hit subjects that gave me flashbacks. I felt like I could actually raise my hands and worship Him without being embarrassed,” one freshman explained. “For this first time, I felt the Spirit flowing through the room and it was really awesome. Spiritual Emphasis meant a lot.”

Another freshman opened up with LNN and shared, “Similar to Daniel’s situation [a message shared by ACH senior, Daniel], there was one area in my life that I could not let go of. At this conference, I was able to let go and let the Lord fill me up. My life was changed over those two days, and I am extremely grateful for what the Lord did. It was also amazing to be able to worship Jesus freely. God truly did something beautiful.”

“Spiritual emphasis opened my eyes to everyone’s view of God,” sophomore Brayden stated. “When we were told the story about the guy that chose on the spot to go the wrong way, it spoke to me. It helped me realize that if we want that change in our life, we need to initiate it immediately instead of just waiting around for change.”

Another sophomore, Emory, shared, “Spiritual Emphasis showed me that I don’t have an infinite amount of time to get my life right with God. I have to take responsibility for my actions and learn how to make better choices the next time I’m at a crossroads in my life.”

Olivia, a junior at ACH, said, “Spiritual Emphasis was such a life changing experience. So many people all going through different problems and struggles in life, coming together in the presence of the Lord is just crazy. I think many lives were touched by God those two days.”

“Spiritual Emphasis really helped me open up to God,” ACH senior Catie shared. “It really showed me that to be better and have a stronger relationship with God, I have to let go of what is holding me back.”

Dakota in junior high, shared that what she got out of yesterday’s message was that “your decisions determine your future.” Decision making  played a major part in the message, Morgan in seventh grade said what stood out to him was that “between two choices, one choice can decide your future.” And Madeline in eighth grade shared: “I saw people cry that I didn’t know had feelings. Even the tough people broke down; all for Jesus.”

Ascension Christian is thankful for the opportunity to experience these awesome things the last few days.

Big shout out to Pastor Connor! Thanks 🙂

Psalm 139:14- I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Pastor Connor introduced a new segment titled: made. His topic was on sex, but his sermon was more than just that. Pastor Connor talked about our value, and the value we should place on others.

  • Once you learn how something is made you honor it.
  • He knows how we are made and he wants more for us.
  • The Lord cares for our hearts more than just physical acts because he wants us. He already demolished sin, so his main focus is getting closer with us, through our hearts.
  • How you see the world and how you see each other can make life difficult.
  • Your actions represent how you value others.
  • Objects are to be used, people are to be valued.
  • Actions come from motives, and motives come from the heart, so what we surround/ volunteer ourselves with is vital.

ACH’s new chapel series is underway. Lion Nation News Jr. High staffers, Victoria Turner and Melanie Jones, provide a recap with a few key notes from the Pastor Connor’s “Direct Message”.

  • Add listening to your prayer habits, don’t just wait for a response.
  • God is in the middle of your situation, even if you can’t see him.
  • The right perception of God makes prayer easier.
  • You have to connect with God to know where you are going.
  • God created your purpose for a reason; it is irreversible.
  • Don’t give up on a prayer if it did not work the first time.
  • Prayer is about connecting with God, not just getting what we want.
  • James 4:8- “Come near to God, and He will come near to you.”
  • We should think about what God made prayer to be rather than focusing on what we think it should be.
  • Psalm 145:18- “The Lord is near to all who call on Him; all who call on Him in truth.”
  • When you call on God, you’re going to receive a God who wants a relationship with you.
  • An answer not given by God doesn’t mean you weren’t heard by God.
  • Understand what prayer is and be intentional about listening to God and sitting in His presence.

Spring Chapel Details!

News, Spiritual Life

Last Friday, Youth Pastor Connor Bledsoe shared with the Ascension Christian teachers new details regarding Spring chapel. Starting this week, chapel will follow a unique theme which will change every two weeks. Each theme will be presented by Pastor Connor every other Friday. On the Fridays that we do not meet corporately for chapel, homerooms will interact in small group discussion related to the theme.

The first topic follows the theme Direct Message.

To wrap it up: Friday, January 25, ACH enjoys chapel as usual. But Friday, February 1, small groups begin!

LNN can’t wait for the new themed-based series this Spring.

What are your thoughts on the exciting changes to chapel?

Christmas Chapel

Notes by: Victoria Turner

Luke 2:10-14
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

  • Our faith isn’t based on the Bible. It’s based on the resurrection.
  • Jesus’ resurrection gives the Bible validity.
  • Remember what the Christmas celebration is about.
  • We are celebrating the birth of the Savior of the world.

Notes by Victoria Turner

“Mission”- DAY ONE

  • 3 things that keep you from fulfilling your mission: past, present, future
  • “Perhaps you were brought into the kingdom for such a time as this.”
  • If you want to walk into your mission, you must learn to walk away from your past.
  • God doesn’t conform to time.
  • If you’re wanting to fulfill your mission, you can’t settle.
  • Choose your destiny over your safety.
  • MAIN MESSAGE: Jesus is the Savior of the world.
  • MAIN MISSION: Share about Jesus and God’s love.
  • MAIN MINISTRY: Serving others like Jesus did.

“Mission”- DAY TWO

  • Mark 2:1-12
  • Getting someone to Jesus takes effort.
  • Do I really love God enough to make sure people are saved?
  • Can I truly love God but not love people enough to get them into Heaven?
  • Our job is to make Heaven bigger.
  1. Live your faith boldly.
  2. See the people hurting around you.

A Horror Story With a Happy Ending | Pastor Kent

News, Spiritual Life

Notes by Victoria Turner and Melanie Jones

1. Get out of your boat! Get out of your comfort zone.

  • When is the last time you did something for God for the first time?
  • There are people that God has called us to be an influence on.
  • Connection is protection!

2. Practice the power Jesus provides!

  • The same spirit that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us.
  • If we don’t employ the power of God, nothing will change.
  • Put on the armor of God: the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, the shoes of readiness and peace, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shield of faith.
  • Are you making a difference in the world or is the world making a difference in you?
  • God wants to set you free!

3. Share your story!

  • When you accept Jesus into your heart and become saved, you have a story; you have a testimony. Share it. You never know how God can use your story.

Love | The Greatest

News, Spiritual Life

Today, Pastor Connor Bledsoe finished “The Greatest” series and talked about loving God, loving others, and loving yourself! Here are some notes that were taken by Victoria Turner and Melanie Jones

  • John 15:5- “I am the vine; you are the branches.”
  • We have to stay near to God to understand what he is saying.
  • We will experience growth when connected with God.
  • Let Jesus lead you towards love!
  • Ask God to help you improve and move forward.
  • Stay connected to the branch; he wants the greatest life for us.
  • Love God, love others, love yourself.
  • Share your pain with people that you trust, and that care about you.

Where are you lacking? What is one thing you can do to move towards love?

FRIENDLY REMINDER: Don’t forget HOF YTH at the Main Campus at 7:00 pm on Wednesday Worship night where we will start “The Creation” series.

“The Greatest” Part 4

At today’s chapel, Pastor Connor Bledsoe delivered a powerful and relevant message on loving others as Jesus did. He shared multiple passages from the book of John.

  • We tend to gravitate to people who are similar to us.
  • We fit people into two buckets: “we” and “they”
  • In John chapter 4, Jesus was by the well, talking to a Samaritan woman. At that time, it was surprising for Jesus to be talking to an outcast.
  • Jesus moved the woman out of a category and into a conversation. Jesus didn’t buy into the idea that her category made her unworthy of his time or attention.
  • How will people experience Christ if we don’t show them Jesus?
  • Follow Jesus’ example of treating others with respect, regardless of society’s opinion.

HOF-YTH Social Night

News, Spiritual Life

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Social Night at the Household Of Faith is a time for us  to be around people our own age and talk about relatable problems. The conversation focused around why people don’t pray as much as they should, and how God doesn’t care how broken or lost we are. Megan Bledsoe shared that you are able to come to Him in the first place.

And before then, Megan shared a great sermon on the basics of praying. She said that when you pray: you should pray with confidence and that your prayer will impact your life.

I definitely recommend going to the next one which is September 19, 2018 (next Wednesday). It really is a great experience!
